Sub Tuum Praesidium is the sacred text of the oldest known Christian hymn about the Virgin Mary. This setting features modern techniques, such as chromatic mediants and polymodal textures. This piece would fit well into any Mass, sacred concert, or worship service.
Sub Tuum Praesidium won the first annual Jim MacMillan Prize in Composition in 2019 and was premiered by the CGOA Voci Choir, conducted by Mark Steighner, on April 26/28 2019 in Hood River, OR.
Sub tuum praesidium
confugimus,
Sancta Dei Genetrix.
Nostras deprecationes ne despicias
in necessitatibus nostris,
sed a periculis cunctis
libera nos semper,
Virgo gloriosa et benedicta.
